Spa, Sport & Regeneration – Extracts from a Holiday Diary
Pure nature, a divine woodland climate, clear alpine air and the possibility to achieve great heights – that’s why I booked my holiday at Hotel Berghof. I am just back from a heavenly ski day and am now floating sky high in a
25m swimming pool (swimming world championships have been won and lost across this distance)! Only glass walls separate me from the eternal ice of the Hintertuxer Glacier – it seems so close that I feel like I am swimming amongst its peaks.
Relaxing in my lounger by the side of the heated outdoor pool & whirlpool, I raise my glass of Austrian winter champagne to the ‘new Berghof’. The glacier giants are all around me, always there, raising a glass with me.
The only thing keeping my consciousness linked to the sun flooded roof terrace of the Berghof is my fluffy white
bath towel.
At this altitude the sun is particularly strong and my divine ski day under the deep blue sky combined with the gentle breeze has left its mark on my skin. To the new Crystal Spa! Where an innovative treatment concept will combat my dried out skin. “The combination of ingredients from high alpine herb and plant gardens around the Hintertux Glacier optimally cares for your skin, compensating for any negative influences,” the hotel owner explained. Both effective and enjoyable!
After a day of sport or other physical exertion, I do not ‘only’ want to replenish my energy reserves lying on a water bed, relaxing in the steam room or chilling in the new sauna area. In the bistro lounge vitamin rich snacks are available all afternoon. Another of my many daily highlights is selecting from the Crystal Drinks menu in the Berghof bar. As I order, soft, light snowflakes are gently falling onto the glass dome above my head.
The ‘Energy Refueling Station’ at Hotel Berghof is the restaurant. Here nutrition not only fulfills its goals but is also a true delight. Ingredients are sourced primarily from farmers and suppliers in the Tyrol region, but international classics are also on the menu. In 2010 Hotel Berghof was distinguished with 2 stars by the Austrian gourmet guide A la Carte for the 7th year in a row!
Nighttime is upon me now and I am staying in one of the 20 new rooms. The tile oven is emanating warmth so I open the window between the sleeping area and the bathroom. The light of the moon is shining through the large panoramic windows. I am lying in the bathtub and looking at the clear, starry sky. From between the North Star and the Big Dipper I see the powerful peak of the Hintertuxer Glacier and almost hear it whisper a good night. And I know…it is looking forward to tomorrow at the Berghof as much as I am…
